My friend, Susan, and I have been throwing out challenges to the internet for 25 years and my submission to this year’s exhibit is the third in my Stories We Tell series. The title of this is “Stories 3: Winter 2023 to Fall 2024”.
I worked this piece in 4 individual panels and it is entirely stitched by hand. The inspiration was all of the hand-stitched scrolls I’ve seen done over the last five years.
This piece tells the story of dealing with the end of my mother’s life and the aftermath of her illness and death. Then the story continues, dispersing her possessions, dealing with the emotional aftermath, all of the firsts in the first year.
The piece is on view this weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, Virginia.
